Valentine’s Day is fast approaching.

It is that time of year again. Love is in the air and for those who are single, February 14, can get rather boring. Well, not this year.

Here is a list of fun things singles can do:

1. Pamper yourself.

Valentine's Day is all about love, spend the day loving yourself. It makes perfect sense. Take time out from work (or just leave an hour early) and do whatever you want, be it pampering yourself with a lavish massage or staying home, ordering take out and binge-watching every movie your celeb crush has ever made. Or watch a full season of your favorite TV show. After all, you have no one to please but your own self. Why not splurge on yourself? That bracelet that you really want but can't really afford. Or those new shoes that have been begging you to buy them for weeks on end.

2. Work, work, work.

If indulging is not our thing, go the opposite direction and use the day to finish (or start) something you have been meaning to do. Work, work, work, and make Valentine’s Day productive.

3. Engage in something new.

Interested in taking up Arnis? Want to learn how to belly-dance? Wish you can cook the perfect chicken binakol? Challenge yourself to do something you haven't done before or seldom get to do because of your schedule.

4. Make someone feel loved.

Studies shows that love spreads, so start an epidemic. Give chocolates to those close to you, like your co-workers and friends, as well as those not so close to you, like the staff at your favorite coffee shop. Not the type who will hand out chocolates? Volunteer and help those less fortunate than you. Seeing a face light up from your small gesture will fill you with love and make the world a better place.

5. Sing your heart out with your other single friends.

Who needs a valentine when you and your bff’s have each other? Round up your single friends, draw names from a hat, and buy whomever you draw a little something. Then, on V-Day, meet at your favorite hangout to exchange valentine’s gifts. Afterward, paint the town red! Try a karaoke bar! Karaoke always give a good time?

6. Have a party

Why not host a party? What better way to forget your single troubles than by inviting your other single friends for a party? Order some party food, get a few beers and cocktails in, and party the night away.

7. Go to a Party

If you do not fancy hosting the party and dealing with the inevitable mess? Get yourself an invite to someone else's party. Enjoy a night of partying, and have none of the aftermath to sort out in the morning.

8. Drown your sadness

A glass of wine, a can of beer, and whatever you prefer. Invite your other single friends over to celebrate being fantastically free. You can even dish your ex's and laugh at your past stupidity.

9. Do a Facebook Purge

If you are bitter and twisted, go through your Facebook friends list and unfriend a few people who no longer quite make the cut any more. How about removing 1,000 people? Then remove 500 more? It could be all you need to ease Valentine blues.

10. Take a day off from social media

Alternatively, instead of singling Facebook out, why not have a day off social media? That way you cannot be affected by the romantic couples and their lovey-dovey statuses, pictures and clips. Take some time out from Facebook and Co. and revel in the social-media free bliss. While you’re at it, don’t forget to turn your cell phone off.

11. Plan a vacation

Forget splurging on clothing or shoes, if you really want to cheer your mood how about planning to splurge on a vacation? The thought of sunshine on a bleak February evening is sure to make you forget all about the February 14 nonsense. Planning a well-earned break will make Valentine's Day 2017 a day to remember.

12. Spend February 14 night at the gym

While everyone else is stuffing their faces with tons of carbs and loads of sugar, head to the gym and get working on that slender summer body. Instead of piling on the pounds get busy shedding a few.

13. Think of the money you are saving

People may say romance is priceless, but it really isn’t. Sit back, relax, and remember just how much money you are saving by being single. No need to buy expensive gifts. No need to carefully choose greetings card. No expensive romantic meal to pay for.

14. Embrace singleness

No arguments. No compromises. No disagreements over petty issues. Single life can actually be very good. Take some time out, on Valentine’s Day, to embrace your singleness and all the little things that make it great.

15. Pretend

Without doubt the best way to get through Valentine's Day is to pretend it's not even happening at all. Take your focus off the holiday and just treat it like any ordinary day.

16. Binge

Yes, binge on ice cream and pizza and chocolates and whatever else you like. Go ahead, stuff your face. It is only for a day. You can always exercise and go on a diet after Valentine’s Day.

17. Watch a comedy flick

Not romantic. Comedy. Round up a group of your other single friends and head to the movies. Catching a good flick is a great way to relax and enjoy yourself without spending much money.
